4. Integrated Management System Design and Development

Integrated management systems are developed when one or more quality, environmental, health and safety, financial, and project management requirements are addressed and managed under one system. The underlying processes in many organizations have, for example, quality, environmental and safety aspects. Rather than establishing and maintaining separate systems, organizations are increasingly developing integrated systems. Examples of integrated management systems we have developed, or have assisted with the development of, include:
  • Quality Management and Project Management system for a University facilities management division
  • Integrated quality management system for a uranium mining and milling complex.

6. Project Assurance Services

Project assurance activities help ensure that a project can and will achieve its objectives. Project assurance activities integrate both risk management and quality management approaches, tools and techniques into a single framework and provide project sponsors and other key stakeholders with independent and objective information about a project at various stages.

Assurance activities can encompass all processes within all phases of a project, including the project management processes (e.g., scope definition, schedule development) and the project product realization processes such as the design, construction and commissioning processes.

Project assurance services include:
  • Assess the establishment and effective implementation of processes and control mechanisms throughout the project delivery team organization (e.g., project manager, designers, consultants, constructors, owner, users).
  • Assess conformance to the project management plan, including the constituent plans, e.g., time, cost, schedule, quality, risk, communication, procurement.
  • Assess stakeholder satisfaction, e.g., friction points that could impact project performance.
  • Assess conformance with contractual, statutory and regulatory policies, procedures and directives, including establishment and implementation of programs that address health, safety and environment regulations.
  • Identify opportunities that might improve project performance.
  • Identify precursors (e.g., conditions, decisions, behaviours) of over-budget and schedule-overrun scenarios and assess how these indicators are being interpreted and managed.
